Education

To start working as a real estate agent, you will need to take pre-licensing courses. California requires three college-level courses, but if you are in another state, you will need to check with state regulations. It’s a good idea to check with real estate agencies in your state as to what you need, before signing up for courses.

Find a Good Brokerage

If you want to become a real estate agent, you will need to work with a real estate brokerage. Find a good real estate brokerage and start training under them. This is a pre-requisite and is needed even before you graduate from your training course. When choosing a brokerage, you will need to check the reputation of the firm before you start training under them. You might also want to ask the broker a couple of questions.

Questions to Ask Your Brokerage

The following are a couple of questions you might want to ask the broker.
  • How many years’ experience do you have?
  • Do you require any additional course work?
  • What client contact style do you use for developing leads?
  • Will there be someone in the brokerage that I can work with while training?
  • How long does it take to earn commission checks?
